Covetousness of Popularity

She has such a beautiful smile
that hasn't been shown in a while.
She hides it now with a frown
since, with her lies, she brought people down.
She used to be a nice girl
until the false accusations that she began to hurl.
With her reputation already cemented,
her new plan of attack must be implemented.

She wanted people to like her
so badly in fact
that she gave the wrong signals
in the way she would act.
Her words and actions were
contradictory to her emotions,
something that should have been made known
to spare all of the commotions.
She did not think ahead
to spare the feelings or lives
that would come to cross her path
in interactions that seemed so contrived.
She wanted to be liked
by all who she encountered
yet did not consider the cost
as the covetousness of popularity drowned her.

She wanted to be wanted
so badly she could taste it
yet what she needed when she needed it
became a dream's opportunity wasted.
