Forever Smile

She's more beautiful than
anyone who came before her.
She's got a smile that
goes on forever.
The pearly whites she flashes
come from an appearing happy nature,
one that seems so uniquely ingenious,
one that seems to have no cure.
She seems far too robotic
in her optimism of life,
one that seems free of worries
and never stricken by a day of strife.
She seems like no matter what
is done near or to her
she will keep that upside down frown
on her face, stronger than ever.
No matter what negativity
an opposition brings to the table,
she is more than willing
and always more than able
to twist words and saying,
to twist statements and desires
to that which only annoys
the opponent who quickly tires.
Even when others try to hold her down
she brushes them off with a grin,
a move she makes successfully
as the alternative she will never do again,
and that which frustrates the opposition
is what makes her truly incredible:
that phoniness despised by so many
is actually genuine and that which makes her, to others, indelible.

The Moment I Realize

She frustrates me
to no end
despite being
my child and friend.
She drives me crazy
seemingly always
in her actions,
her words and the way she plays.
She pushes buttons
I didn't know
I even had
to let go.
I feel sometimes
I cannot take
how much she screams
for attention's sake.
I simply feel
I am all prepared
to lose my cool
and pull my hair
until that split
moment comes to
as her beautiful bright
blue eyes stare through.
It is at this
exact second in time
I realize how lucky I am
for her to be the daughter of mine.

A Burn from Something Beautiful

I promised myself before
I would not allow this again.
I thought I was prepared
but was wrong in the end.
So mercilessly, the sun beat
as my skin was ill-prepared to take.
A previously pale white body
was overcome with a red glow as the sun did bake.
I try to wipe my face
but the burning tells me
not to rub so carelessly
unless I want more pain momentarily.
I sit down softly
but inadvertently
push down roughly
on both of my knees.
I did not realize
the bright, fiery red ball
did so much damage
to this body in all.
Now I know,
but only too late,
that this pain I feel
is all that's on my plate.
I swore previously
that it happened for the last time,
as I now swear again
this goal of mine.
No matter what it means
I must do to prepare
my laziness will not cause me
to overlook my care.
Next time, sun,
I will not allow this to be done
as an attempted burn from something beautiful
will be a battle I have won.
